Special requirements for injector nozzles of different types of engines
Different types of engines have different special requirements for injector nozzles, as follows:
Gasoline engine
Manifold injection: The injection pressure is usually 3-5bar, and the injector does not need to withstand excessive pressure. The spray shape and direction of the nozzle must ensure that the fuel is evenly mixed with the air in the intake manifold. Generally, an internally open structure nozzle is used, and soft injection with low range requirements can be selected2.
Direct injection in the cylinder: The injection pressure requirements are extremely high, usually reaching more than 200bar or even higher. The nozzle needs to use special sealing materials and structures, such as Teflon oil seals, to prevent fuel leakage. The material must be resistant to high temperature and corrosion, and metal materials are mostly used to withstand the high temperature and high pressure environment of the combustion chamber.
Diesel engine
Hole injector1: Suitable for direct injection combustion chambers, with high requirements for spray quality. There are many spray holes, small diameters, and high injection pressure, generally more than 1000bar, and the fuel cleanliness is required to be extremely high, otherwise it is easy to clog the spray holes.
Needle injector 1: Commonly used in swirl chamber and pre-combustion chamber combustion chambers, with large spray hole diameter, relatively low injection pressure, strong self-cleaning ability, but relatively low requirements for spray uniformity.
Hybrid engine
Working in conjunction with the electric system: It needs to work closely with the engine's electric system to accurately control the fuel injection amount and injection timing in different working modes, such as pure electric mode and hybrid mode, to achieve the best fuel economy and power performance.
Fast response: Since the engine starts and stops frequently in the hybrid system, the injector nozzle needs to have a faster response speed and be able to accurately complete the injection action in a short time to ensure the smooth start and operation of the engine.
Hydrogen fuel engine
High-purity hydrogen supply: Since the chemical properties of hydrogen are different from those of fuel, the injector nozzle needs to ensure that high-purity hydrogen can be injected into the combustion chamber at a suitable pressure and flow rate, and hydrogen leakage must be prevented.
Special seals and materials: Hydrogen molecules are small and easy to leak, so the sealing requirements of the injector nozzle are higher, and special sealing materials and structures are required. At the same time, in order to avoid hydrogen embrittlement, the material of the oil nozzle needs to have good resistance to hydrogen embrittlement.
