The role of the injector
The injector is a key component in the diesel engine fuel injection system. Its main function is to spray the fuel into the engine combustion chamber in a specific way and parameters to achieve good atomization of the fuel, uniform mixing with the air and efficient combustion. The details are as follows:
Precisely meter the fuel: Accurately control the amount of fuel sprayed into the combustion chamber according to the engine's operating conditions, such as load, speed, etc. The engine control unit (ECU) will calculate the required amount of fuel based on the signals from various sensors, and accurately supply the fuel by controlling the opening time and number of the injector to meet the power requirements of the engine under different operating conditions while ensuring fuel economy. For example, when the engine is idling, the injector will spray a small amount of fuel to maintain the engine operation; under high-load conditions such as high-speed driving or climbing, the injector will increase the amount of fuel sprayed to provide sufficient power for the engine.
Achieve fuel atomization: Spray the fuel from the injector's spray hole at a certain pressure and speed, so that the fuel is dispersed into fine oil droplets to form a good spray shape. This can increase the contact area between the fuel and the air, promote the rapid mixing of the fuel and the air, and create conditions for the full combustion of the fuel. For example, the design of the injector's spray hole and the control of the injection pressure can atomize the fuel into micron-sized oil droplets, so that the fuel can be quickly mixed with the air in the combustion chamber.
Control the injection timing: Accurately control the start time and duration of fuel injection according to the engine's working cycle and combustion requirements. Appropriate injection timing is crucial to engine performance and emissions. Injecting too early or too late will lead to incomplete combustion, reduced engine power, increased fuel consumption, and worsening emissions. The injector works in conjunction with the engine's electronic control system to accurately adjust the injection timing according to different operating conditions to ensure that the fuel is injected into the combustion chamber at the best time to achieve efficient combustion.
Optimize fuel distribution: Evenly distribute the fuel in the combustion chamber to avoid fuel concentration in local areas and ensure that the mixture concentration in the combustion chamber is uniform. This helps to improve combustion efficiency, reduce local high temperatures and incomplete combustion, and reduce emissions of pollutants such as nitrogen oxides (NOx), hydrocarbons (HC), carbon monoxide (CO) and particulate matter (PM). For example, by rationally designing the spray hole layout and spray angle of the injector, the fuel can be formed into a spray that conforms to the shape of the combustion chamber and the movement of the airflow, thereby achieving uniform distribution of the fuel.
