Injectors: The sophisticated heart of an engine's fuel system
The injector is the core component of the engine fuel system. It is responsible for accurately atomizing the fuel and spraying it into the combustion chamber according to the working conditions. Its performance directly determines the engine's power output, fuel efficiency and emission level.
Modern injectors are represented by high-pressure common rail systems, which are mainly composed of injectors, actuators, fuel channels and control components. The number of nozzles (4-12), aperture (0.1-0.3mm) and angle of the injector need to match the shape of the combustion chamber to ensure uniform coverage of the oil mist; the actuator is divided into electromagnetic and piezoelectric types, the latter has a response speed of 0.1ms, and supports multiple injections such as pre-injection, main injection, and post-injection; the fuel channel ensures the stable delivery of high-pressure fuel (diesel can reach more than 2000bar).
Its working principle is based on "pressure difference drive": at idle speed, the spring force presses the needle valve against the valve seat to block the injection; when the ECU issues a command, the electromagnetic force or piezoelectric effect pushes the needle valve to open, and the high-pressure fuel is ejected at high speed through the spray hole, and is broken into 10-50μm oil mist under the action of air shear force, and fully mixed with air for combustion.
The key technologies are reflected in high pressure (improving atomization fineness), intelligence (AI algorithm dynamically adjusts the injection amount) and material innovation (tungsten carbide coating improves wear resistance). During maintenance, the fuel filter needs to be replaced regularly to prevent clogging, and carbon deposits need to be removed by ultrasonic cleaning, and the spray shape and sealing need to be tested to avoid power loss and excessive emissions caused by dripping or poor atomization.
As the "fuel distribution center" of the engine, the technical iteration of the injector continues to promote the development of internal combustion engines towards high efficiency and low emissions, and is a precise bridge connecting fuel and power.
