What’s the difference between a diesel engine and a gasoline engine?

If classified according to fuel, diesel and gasoline engines are the most important engines on the vehicle. Diesel engines are mostly installed on large-load vehicles, such as trucks, construction machinery vehicles; Gasoline engines are mostly installed on small vehicles with light loads, such as family cars, which are basically gasoline engines. So what’s the difference between a gasoline engine and a diesel engine?

The difference between gasoline engines and diesel engines is very big, but simply put, the difference is mainly concentrated in the following three points:

1. The difference in fuel

Diesel engines use diesel, but a small amount of gasoline can be added to help ignite the fire. This practice is common in winter. In cases where diesel is unable to ignite because of its poor fluidity, you can do this to help ignite. But the gasoline engine can only add gasoline, adding diesel will cause great harm to the engine, because it will cause serious failure. If it is added incorrectly, it is necessary to stop driving immediately and carry out engine cleaning.

2. Structural difference of engine

Although both are engines, one is built on the basis of diesel characteristics, and the other is built on the basis of gasoline, and the structure is very different. Take ignition, diesel engine is not need spark plug, diesel fuel low ignition point, in the compression stroke, will automatically ignite; Gasoline engines, on the other hand, need to be ignited and fired at each subsequent compression stroke. If all the spark plugs fail to ignite in the middle of the car, the car cannot run.

3. Different burning methods

Whether the gasoline engine is direct injection or not, in fact, the gasoline and air will be fully mixed, and then the fire, instantly release the maximum heat energy, producing an effect similar to the “explosion” to provide power. But the diesel engine is different, because the fluidity and mixing of diesel is very poor, only the front bit of diesel is mixed through high pressure, so that after it begins to burn, the diesel behind the evaporation under the action of high temperature continues to burn, and then continues to generate power.
