Exhibition introduction

The 25th AUTOEXPO AFRICA-the largest automobile, motorcycle parts and accessories exhibition in the entire East African region is scheduled to be held from July 3 to 5, 2024.
“AUTOEXPO AFRICA” is held annually at the Nairobi International Exhibition Center (KICC), Kenya, and has been successfully held for 24 sessions. For 24 years, AUTOEXPO AFRICA has been selected by global manufacturers and exporters as the precise platform to enter the millennial African market. Kenyatta International Conference Center (KICC) is located in the heart of Nairobi and is the most important international exhibition venue in Africa.
Kenya’s automotive parts market is a promising industry that offers opportunities for growth, innovation and jobs. Kenya Auto Expo is East Africa’s premier automotive show, chosen by global manufacturers and exporters as the precise platform to enter the African market. As the leading trade show for auto, truck and bus parts, equipment, components, accessories, tools and services, Kenya is Africa’s leading manufacturer, supplier and service provider to reach one of the world’s most important markets. Kenya’s automotive industry is primarily concerned with the retail and distribution of motor vehicles, as well as after-sales support in terms of repair and parts sales. The market is dominated by imported second-hand vehicles, with an increased demand for quality and affordable spare parts, and an increased demand for capital goods such as machinery, lubricants, spare parts, ball bearings and other automotive mechanical products and accessories.
Celebrating its 24th anniversary, the leading trade show for auto, truck, motorcycle and bus parts, equipment, components, accessories, tools and services continues to connect the world’s leading manufacturers, suppliers and service providers to one of the world’s most important markets.

Market background

1.Kenya is located on the east coast of Africa, with a total population of 34 million; it borders Somalia (east), Ethiopia (north), Sudan (northwest), Uganda (west), and Tanzania (south);
2.Kenya is a sea transport line into East Africa and Central Africa, and has the largest deep-water port in the region-MOMBASSA;
3.Kenya is a member of the East African and Southern African Free Trade Market;
4.Africa is an important market for Chinese exports.

At present, the Kenyan government welcomes Chinese companies to invest and do business in Kenya. The international market demand is unstable, and the uncertainty of the recovery of developed economies such as the United States and Europe has increased. Against this background, African countries such as South Africa, Egypt, Nigeria, Morocco, and Kenya have become important export markets for China’s auto parts products to maintain foreign trade growth. Kenya has a stable exchange rate, no foreign exchange controls, and foreign companies can freely remit profits in and out. The relatively low cost of investing in Kenya is also a favorable condition for Chinese companies to invest in Kenya.
5. Kenya has a population of 34 million and covers 380 million consumers in the East African market.

Transportation is mainly based on cars and motorcycles. There are nearly 100,000 cars in the capital Nairobi alone. Because Kenya’s road conditions are poor and the Kenyan auto market is mainly dominated by second-hand cars, there is a great demand for motorcycles and auto parts. However, Kenya is a tourist country, and compared with the passenger car and tourist car market, the market prospects are considerable. At the same time, with the development of Kenya’s economy, the demand for new cars is also increasing.
6.Kenya’s trade with China is growing year by year, especially in the automotive sector, which has great market potential. The Kenyan government does not charge SGS fees for electric vehicles, auto parts, motorcycles, spare parts and other products (this fee is 15% of the CIF value), which is also a good policy given by the government.

The status of China-Kenya trade

China and Kenya have formed a close trade strategic partnership. In recent years, the volume of imports and exports between China and Kenya has also been increasing. However, there are no direct flights between the two countries, and the import and export of goods is mainly carried out by Beijing Fanyuan International Transport Service Co., Ltd. signed by Ethiopian Airlines.
Data from the China Economic Industry Research Institute shows that the bilateral import and export volume of goods between China and Kenya from January to November 2022 was US$775,936.52 million, an increase of US$149,325.66 million compared with the same period in 2021, a year-on-year increase of 24.3%.
