Introduction to the exhibition
The Morocco International Auto Parts Exhibition is hosted by the Moroccan Auto Parts Association and supported by the Moroccan Ministry of Commerce. It is the only professional international auto parts exhibition in Morocco. The Morocco International Auto Parts Exhibition has been held every two years since 2016. The 2018 exhibition attracted nearly 100 exhibitors, including 25 Chinese exhibitors. This year’s exhibition is expected to have more than 150 exhibitors and more than 15,000 professional visitors. In previous exhibitions, Chinese exhibitors have received great attention and Chinese auto parts products have been welcomed. Officials from the Moroccan Ministry of Industry, Trade, Investment and Digital Economy and the Moroccan Auto Parts Association attended the opening ceremony and other activities. Major media in Morocco, such as the Maghreb Arab News Agency (MAP), Moroccan TV 1 and 2, as well as the “Morning News”, “Economist”, “Morocco Evening News” and other media have reported on the exhibition.
Analysis of the Moroccan Market
1. Economic Policy Environment
On May 11, 2016, China and Morocco issued a joint statement on establishing a strategic partnership between the two countries. The trade development between China and Morocco has reached a new high.
2. Geographical Advantages
Morocco is located at the northwest end of Africa, bordering Algeria in the southeast, Western Sahara in the south, the Atlantic Ocean in the west, and Spain. It is the gateway to the Mediterranean and the Atlantic Ocean. Morocco is adjacent to Europe and has signed free trade agreements with the EU, the United States, Turkey and Arab countries. The obvious location advantage makes Morocco a hub connecting the three major markets of the EU, the Arab world and Africa. It enjoys special advantages in exporting products to the above-mentioned regions, covering a market of 1 billion consumers, which deserves the attention of the domestic automotive industry. Morocco is as important to Europe as Mexico is to the United States. It is a unique platform.
3. Morocco has developed into the largest automotive industrial base in Africa by building ports, free trade zones, highways, freight railway lines, demarcating production areas and factories for automakers, and providing production subsidies of up to 35%.
The boom in the automobile industry has created business opportunities in the auto parts market. Currently, Morocco’s auto parts industry has an annual turnover of 4.5 billion US dollars, so the demand for auto parts is also increasing. Most parts are imported directly from European countries, with France, Italy and Germany as the main suppliers. France accounts for more than half of Morocco’s auto parts market. Since more than half of the cars in use in Morocco are more than 10 years old, the import of spare parts is increasing year by year. In recent years, imports from Asian countries and regions, especially China, have gradually expanded. This also provides excellent business opportunities for Chinese auto parts manufacturers.
